    I was tried in Dublin town.
    And forced to die on the scaffold high,
    My life I must lay down.

    I sailed on board the ship Mellrose,
    In August '83 and on my way to Cape Town.
    It was well know to me,
    When I found out he was Carey,
    We had angry words and blows.
    This villian he thought to take my life.
    On board of the ship Mellrose.
    Carey's wife burst into the cabin where he lay.
    And when she saw him in his gore,
    It filled her with dismay.
