- Near Newtown chapel there lies a large rock known as the rock of Newtown. It is in the district of Newtown in the parish of Callan. It is about two miles from the nearest village. This village is Kells Ossory, which is about mid-way between Callan and Thomastown.
The story was told by the old locals around Newtown district. It is in connection with a great man named Fionn Mac Cumhail. It is not easy to believe those stories but there is a certain amount of truth in them.
