Local people still use certain graveyards. People are buried in the father's family burial ground no matter how far away it may be. The wife too, is generally buried with her husband and it is a common old saying with regard to the kind of day a person is buried "Happy is the corpse that the rain pours on." It is commonly believed too that when a Fitzgerald is being buried there is sure to be rain and a storm"Gaoth 's cnagarnaig ar thóir na gearrlag"In olden times unbaptised children were buried in unconsecrated ground, now they are buried in the local churchyard like the baptised children.
