  1. In olden times fairs were held on the crossroads. There was three crossroads in Gowran where the fairs were held namely: Neigham Cross, Lynches Cross, & the five mile Cross. When an animal was sold he was marked with raddle or pitch or else the hair was clipped off all in the initials of the buyer.
