   “The following incident was told in the presence of one now in Paulstown, long ago by the clergymen with whom it happened, the Reverend J. Colgan P.P. of Clare.”

   trap, not a stir would the pony give. A most inexplicable thing as the animal was a very docile, easily managed creature always. It was coaxed, threatened and at last beaten, but all in vain, not an inch would it move. By this time the poor priest had almost lost patience and he said in a very annoyed tone "Do what you like". Away went the pony, but not the usual way, which it had always gone. When the priest reached his own house, the maid told him a messenger had been ther looking for him, to fetch him to the poor sinner, who was dangerously ill. The priest lost no time in arriving at the sick man's house, but sad to say he was too late, the poor man was dead. Had the pony come home the usual way he would have been in time, as he would pass by the house. The peculiar fact was that the pony never agin refused to travel that road afterwards. The priest finished his story by saying "It was as white as snow, that the unfortunate man resisted the last grace given".
