    The tide of vengeance stemmed for years, thro' all, all 'till to-day.
    While blackened hearth and roofless shrine, and slaughtered outraged kin
    For vengeance cry to hold our hands were vilest, blackest sin.
    And speak not of our rude array - God knows their weapons ne'r
    Flashed out in holier, nobler cause than the pikes, through rude, we bear.
    And, Father - oh, what foe could stand their fiery onset, when
    Their ashen shafts are in the hands of gallant Wexfordmen!
    Of Wexfordmen - and, mark yet, men with hears afire (and land) aflame
    To burst the bonds that long have bound their race and land in shame
    Yea, dreadful shall our reckoning be
