In the year 1936 there was a great thunderstorm in Castlecomer. It started about 8 o'clock and did not stop until 1 o clock. A great shower of hailstones fell. Then the thunder claps were heard very loud. For lightning and sheet lightning were flashing. The electric lights were off. People were left in darkness. Telegraph poles were blown down. Trees were falling all durying that night. Horses and cattle were torn from running through the bushes in the fields. It was a dreadful night.
