    their roots. There was a storm in January, 1938 also, in which trees were knocked, and which was accompanied by a rainstorm and floods. A short time before the Great War of 1914, starlings were dashed to pieces on the streets of Kilkenny. The people said it was a sign of trouble.

  2. Marriage Customs

    In olden times match making was very common in this district. The fathers of the parties used go to a neighbours house and after a long conversation the match was made.
    This old custom is not carried out now except in real old houses. Most people have dances the night of the marriage. When the boys of the district hear of this, they dress up as "brideogs", and go to the house, where they are heartily welcomed.
