- Long ago there were not much slates on any of the people's outhouses. They were all thatched and some of the dwelling houses were thatched too. There were always some thatchers in the district
The thatchers always used wheaten straw because it was the best. When the people were going to thatch their houses they got straw and thatching cord and scollops
Scollops were hazel switches about three feet long. They got the hazel sticks because they could bend them and they would not break. The ends of the scollops were pointed.(continues on next page)- Collector
