- If you travel around Ireland you will see many old castles which were built by our ancestors, cromlechs are also to be seen, which marks the resting place of our illustrious dead, there are some too which mark historical happenings.
In this district some historical events took place.
There is a castle built on Mr. Walshe's field, which is now in ruins, close to this castle there was a battle fought, between the Mac Tiolla Paronaigs of Cullohill and Butlers of Kilkenny. One of the Butlers was killed accidentally. It was said that the Great Earl of Kildare took a part in this act. In this field which was once the scene of mortal strife long ago, the birds of spring are now singing in its bowers.
