    It is a great charity that landlordism was abolished, because while this system was in force, in Ireland, discontent reigned among the people because they had to starve themselves to meet these unjust demands.
    The people in those, not too-far off days, often had to live on potatoes and salt, which the people nowadays could not live on. The Irish land always belonged by right to the Irish people, and no one had, at any time, the right to claim it as their own, not to talk of asking them to pay rent for it.
