    "Jesus, be with me, enlighten my mind,
    and touch my heart."
    Each night before I sleep, Mammy has taught me to say:
    "As I lay down on my right hand side,
    I pray to God to be my guide,
    And if I die before I wake,
    I pray to God my soul to take."
    Then folding my arms in the form of a cross, I say.
    "O my God, I know that I must die,
    I do not know how, when or where,
    But if I die in mortal sin
    I'm lost for ever"
    "My Jesus, have mercy on me!"
    Another night prayer that is suitable for the same occasion , is,
    "There are four corners on my bed,
    There are four angels overspread.
    Mathew, Mark, Luke and John,
    God bless this bed that I lay on
    And if I die before I wake,
    I pray to God my soul to take"
    The old Irish were much more dedicated
