    the Abbey was burned and the monks driven out. Later on the lands were granted to Queen Elizabeth's favourite Black Tom of Ormond. Prior to this the Abbey had been occupied by the Franciseans and at the Cross of Tullyroe and Warren Roads there is a triangular plot which marks the place where three Francisceans fathers were martyred 1588. The Ormond family kept possession of the temporalities until 1700 when they passed to an ancestor of the present De Vescis.
    About a hundred years ago while digging the gardens on the De Vesci estate very interesting objects were found which have been preserved and can be seen at any time. The first of these was an ancient slab, the second
