Clonagown means Cluain na nGamhainn which means the Meadow of the calves.
There are nineteen families with approximately eighty people. The name Bowe is most common is it occurs four times while Culleton occurs three times and Moore twice and the rest once.
There are five houses thatched and the rest slated. There are three old people and they are not regarded as storytellers. As far as I can find out Clonagown is not mentioned in any peom or saying.
Houses were more numerous in former times. The family of Dunne migrated to another district. Two other families died out altogether.
The land is fairly good. The Southern end is boggy with rushes growing in wet spots.
There is no river of any importance in the townland.
The land produces good crops of turnips and mangles.- Collector
