    As vesper hour vast crowds did meet,
    With shrouded beir in sombre veiling,
    They bore him from his quiet retreat
    And laid him by the Altar railing.
    Sin tapers round his coffin placed
    Undimmed within the gloom were burning,
    The pulpit, too, that oft he graced
    Was, with the Altar draped in mourning.

    Intoned His Lordship "Libera me"
    And while we sung the sacred rites
    With flowers was lined his grave of clay
    Then when the sun shone down the nave
    Slow through the aisle the Brothers bore him
