There are two streams flowing through the valley of Shanrath. There are three small bridges built over the rivers. These rivers have no names. Shanrath is in the parish of Ballyadams and in the barony of Slieve Margy. The walls of these six or seven old houses are all mud walls. When they used to be building the old houses they used to mix hay and mud and leave it for a few days before they would use it in the building of the walls. The fire - places in these old houses were all big grates with big hobs at each side of them.
