  1. The following are the weeds and herbs in the townland of Slatt, parish of Ballyadams, barony of Slieve Margy in the County of Leix
    The names of the weeds are: -
    Docks, Nettles, Crowfoot, Red Knee, Spunk, Chicken Weed, Dandelions, Buacalaun, Fowerauns,
    The following is the list of herbs, The House Leek, Broom, Ivy, Rotten Rodgers. The Broom is a good cure for boils. The Broom is cut up and boiled in water for a few hours. Then when the mixture is cool it is drank.
    The people eat an herb called the cuirleain. It is supposed to be very good for delicate people. The docks are the harmful weeds in this district.
