  1. The Kind Friend
(Got from Pat Carty of Currine aged 67 years.)
'Twas a cold winter's night and the snow flakes were falling
I sat by my fire snug and warm
I heard at the window a weakly voice calling
As I went and looked out in the storm
It was an old friend who was asking for shelter
He looked very tattered and thin
But that did not matter he came from old Ireland and thus I invited him in.
    Chorus
"There's a little drop left in the bottle be boy
And you're heartily welcome to drink
In the pipe there's a bit of tobacco me boy you can smoke away till you think
I have a shilling or two in my pocket to spare
And my house, you can call it your own
Since you came from the old dark
Here's my hand and my heart
For good nature will never disown.
I got him inside and God rest the poor fellow
Ere morning his spirit took flight
To Molly and I he left a nice fortune for giving him shelter one night
He wasn't poor at all but he tried his relations
