In those early times, we are told, the colour of all Irish cows was a mixture of red and white; and there was not a black cow to be seen in all the land. From that day onward the farmer gew richer and richer. The fairy cow's milk was such as had never been tasted before; the butter and cheese made from it were the best in the world.
She gave the milk to all who asked for it, and as often in the day as one cared to ask. The milk made silly people clever and wicked people good. The calves of this wonderful cow were snow-white, like herself, and were finer and sleeker than any other.
