    on a Sunday evening in 1882. Gibbert Hanley the teacher of Weekfield school was starter. The race was from Pat Gills in Anratabeg to the grove of trees at the back of Peter Davis's house. John Irwin won the race.
    Jamsey Davis, Anratabeg was able to run a rabbit down in ten mintes if he did not overtake him in that length of time he would not overtake him at all. John Connor deceased whom I remember was a very swift runner. One day he followed a hare and ran so swiftly that he caught him. Mrs. John Irwin was with him at the time so this is no fantastic story.
    Great Walkers. Tom Morris a shoe maker of Mount Cashel walked to Roscommon in one hour. Peter Farrell, Portnahinch and Pat Carroll, Gardenstown walked fourteen miles.
