- There are many old customs with regard to marriage in this district.
The marriage usually takes place in Shrove and at Easter. People never get married during Lent or Advent or if they do all their settlements are made during shrove.
May is thought an unlucky month to get married in and Saturday is also an unlucky day.
Matches are made in my district. The man to be married sends another man to the girl's house to ask her.
Then the girl and man meet and arrange whether they will be married or not. If they are the girl gives money as a fortune and sometimes she gives cattle and horses. Another custom connected with marriage is. If it is a leap year the(continues on next page)- Collector
