  1. About the year 1850 a landlord named Sir Henery Beecher lived at Creagh demesne near Creagh school. He planted a lot of trees and shrubs to form woods to rear game in principally pheasants; birds about the size of a common hen. He had a game-keeper to rear and feed them
    When they got plentiful they strayed out to the farms around as far as two or three miles as the owners of those farms were Beecher's tenants, they were not allowed to keep any dog or gun for fear of disturbing the birds. The game-keeper paid about one shilling each for the old birds, if taken to him alive, also about a half-crown for a nest of eggs or young birds (pheasants). If a dog was found with any farmer those years he would be evicted from his farm
