    upstairs and took a gun and ammunition which he had con-cealed in the thatch. He loaded the gun and looked out the win-dow. He saw a number of soldiers using a ram to burst in the door. He took aim and fired, the shot striking one of the soldiers and wounding him severely.
    He looked back into the room and saw it full of soldiers who had entered by a back door which had not been locked. He had not time to re-load when he was grabbed by the soldiers, his gun and ammunition taken and he himself carried away a prison-er.
    He was taken before the court of justice and as it was forbidden by the Penal Laws that a Catholic should carry arms
