“Long ago the old people had certain superstitious cures...”
Long ago the old people had certain superstitious cures which they thought were supposed to cure different diseases such as pointing a gooseberry thorn three times each day for nine days at a sty on a person's eye.There is also a certain kind of skin disease called "Wild Fire" which they supposed could be cured by rubbing gold to it.
In almost every herb growing there is a cure for some special disease.
In "House Leek" which is a certain kind of green week growing on the walls of a stable or outhouse, there is a cure for sore-eyes.
The juice of a weed called "Wart Weed" is supposed to remove warts. "Chicken Weed" which is to be found in a potato crop is supposed to reduce swelling. The juice from a dock leaf is a cure for a(continues on next page)- Collector
