St. Brigid's Day
Many people make crosses on that day in honour of St. Brigid. They put them in the rafters. All the boys of the village gather to-gether and go out as "Brideogs". They go around from house to house dressed in old clothes and wearing fake faces. They play melodeons and dance and sing. They gather money which they divide. When they come to a town they have a drink. Old people say that every second day from St. Brigid's Day will be fine.
Shrove Tuesday
All young girls are vexed when they were not married during the "sceraft". The boys throw salt at them on Ash Wednesday. Any man who is not married before Lent is chalked on the first Sunday in Lent and so this day is called "Chalk Sunday.
St Patrick's Day
The Irish all over the world honour St Patrick by wearing the Shamrock. The people go to dances on St Patrick's Night and drown the Shamrock by drinking deer. The old people say that every day from St Patrick's Day will be fine.(continues on next page)- Collector
