    They are used as wanted, and a sufficient amount are left for the coming Spring. The small potatoes are picked and are put in a separate pit and are used for the farm
    animals.
    There are several names given locally to potatoes; Champions, Aran Banners, Kerpinks, Epicures, Garden-fillers, Striped Champions,"Shamrocks". Greys, "Defy the blights"and Sharpe's Express. Potatoes are often locally called "spuds". Kerpinks, Aran Banners and Champions grow best in this district.
