    be seated down to a breakfast of potatoes and skimmed milk and the potatoes would not be the best sometimes and the milk was little better than separated milk. Work would be carried on until dinner time and the same meal would be supplied again potatoes and skimmed milk. People considered themselves very happy if they could afford the same for supper but it was more often a feed of Indian meal called stirabout with skim milk. This was surely a poor sort of diet but my father and the old man said that there were a great many more families who had not even that. Neither had some the table to lay
