The Friary came to an end after the failure of the Desmond Rebellion, but it had a kind of twilight existence up to 1750. The "Buttevant Chalice", dated 1600, was used here for a time. Boetius Egan was guardian in 1648. He became Bishop of Ross and was later executed by Broghill.- Collector
