    is there to-day, and thousands of visitors to the village pass over it yearly without being aware that it is something more than a roadway. The bridge has a story. Towards the end of the eighteenth century the bridge leading into the village by the Cork road was partly carried away by a flood, and instead of repairs it was decided to build a new bridge a little to the east and divert the course of the Martin river into a wider channel flowing past the mills. A handsome stone bridge of three arches, with ornamental panels was accordingly built. But the cutting of the channel was interrupted by disputes between the owners of the adjacent properties, so for a considerable time Blarney had the distinction of having a bridge without a
