    and believes that the ancient title of our river was the Savian Savairn, or Sabhair. In favour of this view is a reference found in the Annals of the Four Masters for the year 1163 where it is stated that "the royal Heir of Tara fell off the bridge at Cork and was drowned in the Sabhran. The Ptolemic name of Daurona or Dabrona could be interprested as referring to the Lee by considering a peculiarity common to the Celtic languages where words beginning with "s" and followed by a cowel were subject to one or other of two changes - aspiration or eclipsis.
