    ically one island, or to later days when immigrants to our shores from Celtic Britain gave to the Lee the title of the familiar one they had left behind, just as modern colonists call their new towns by names which recall memories of the homeland. It is also an interesting fact that Old Cork's earliest commercial interests were intimately associated with those of the City of Bristol on the Severn, and her first Royal Charter in 1185 was framed on the one granted to the latter city by King John.
    The scenic beauties of our river are essentially pastoral. The Cork pact Milliken, "Ode to Cynthia," says:-
