It was wrecked and finally abandoned at the conclusion of the Cromwellian Wars. A priest is supposed to have been shot in it at this time while celebrating Mass. Many of the older people are afraid to go near it even with the approach of twilight. Tommy Kildea aged 45 of same townland says that he once at night saw a figure dressed as a priest within the ruins. He also says that he was told by his father that the bell was often heard to ring at 12 oclock noon.
This church contains a tomb covered by slab (see note on old graveyards)
An old tree was until about 15 years ago was growing within the ruins. It was blasted by lightening.
The stone from the door and windows were taken away for the building of a grannary nearby by protestants locally known as the two Scotch men. This happened 60 years ago. These two sold the place at a loss to a lady who only held the property for a few years. The land was shortly afterward divided.
There are other stories connected with this church but are too vague to be recorded.
