Little girls dress in white and cover their faces with veils. A lighted candle is carried in a scooped out turnip. They go from house to house collecting pennies. They recite at each door. -
"Here's St Brigid dressed in white
Give her a penny in honour of the night."
Patricks Day:-
The older folk usually procure a small supply of whiskey and when night come punch is made. The shamrock worn is then dipped into the punch. This is called drowning the shamrock.
Shrove Tuesday
A special supply of pancakes are made on this night.
Easter Sunday: -
A large supply of eggs cooked, fried, or boiled. each member of the household eats as many as he wishes
Whit Sunday + Monday.
Regarded as especially dangerous for swimer.
Advent:-
Each one says 4,000 Hail Marys during this period.
