- There are very few old people that know any stories about the famine as it is a long time since it happened.
The famine destroyed all the potato crop and the people died of hunger and starvation as the potato was their chief food at that time. The people used to eat nettles and raw turnips and they also used to make Brann-Brith that was something made from nettles and Indian meal.
The people were dying by the sides of the road.- Collector
