- My Home District (p94)The name of my townland is Thomastown. It is situated in the parish of Drum and the barony of south Athlone. There are about 14 families and about 90 people in it. Naughten is the name most common.. There are eight houses thatched and mine nine slated. Thomastown got its name after an old landlord who lived there and his name was Thomas. There are about four people over seventy and none of them know the Irish language but they often told me English stories. The houses were more numerous in former times than they are now.
