  1. (continued from previous page)
Young Bessy's own father stood at the gate.
Like a man quite forlorn bewelling his fate
The young man advanced him and offered some repreaf.
He begged him to tell him the cause of his grief
I had but one daughter the old man did say
And now she lies low in sweet Ballytown Bray
    v
Her skin was as white as the lilly or swan
As boney a las as the sun ev'r smiled on
Her heart it was broken she died in despair
Sometimes she went frantic and tearing her hair
And it was all by a young man that led her astray
And now she lies low in sweet Ballytown Bray.
    v1
Indeed I am the trator the young man replied
I certainly said I would make her my Bried
It was out from his bocet a small soard he drew
And with it he pierced his heart through
And when he was dying the words he did say
Now leave me low down by Bessy of Barrytown Bray.
