A Song
“I met an old man the other day he was feeble old and wake.”

Rathpeak
Oldtown P. O.
Ballinasloe
County Galway.
I met an old man the other day he was feeble old and wake.
And he said he tried to clerk a late to spend five bob a week
One aminpence? for my lodgings for to leave my poor head down.
And ninepence for tobacco that is the first half-crown.
So when we get the pension tis happy we will be.
The old women and men the can walk in and have a jolly spree.
There is seven pence for sugar and seven pence for tea.
Ten pence halfpenny worth of bread.
Three half pence every day.
There will three pence for new milk
Our feedings wont be great
We will have two-pence every Sunday for to buy a bit of meat.
So it is when we get the pension
It is happy we will be.
The old women and men
The can walk in and have a jolly spree.- Informant
