“A very amusing character called Con Mahony lived in Bantry some years ago.”
A very amusing character called Con Mahony lived in Bantry some years ago. He was a labourer in the town. He could not read nor write, but sometimes when he met some very ignorant people, he would pretend to read the paper, and if he thought his audience would believe him, he would read of such things as "A Ship wreck in Tipperary."
One day as he was going down the street, he met an old woman and she said to him,
"A laogh liom, you did not see a donkey and car up the street," Con stood in front of her and looked at her with his squint, and putting his hands on his hips, at last he answered,
"My dear woman I would like very much if the likes of you would mind your own business." Is it not equal to you what I saw and what I did not see."- Collector
