- Marriages usually take place in this locality during Shrove, which beings on the sixth of January and ends on Shrove Tuesday. They also take place during the Easter time. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are thought unlucky for marriage and also the months of May, August and December.
Matches are made in this district during Shrove. It is said that anyone, who was matchmaking during Shrove, if the match was not finished that they should go to the "Sgeilg" on Shrove Tuesday night. It is the custom for the people in every house to have pancakes for supper on that night, which is commonly known as "pancake night".
Long ago, when the law was made not to marry during Lent, it is thought that it was not heard in the monastery at "Sgeilgs", and that marriages are celebrated there during Lent. Stock or goods are not given, but money is given as fortune or dowry. About forty years ago marriages took place in the houses.
