- The Local ForgeThe forge - water, in which the smith dips the hot irons, is supposed to be a cure for warts. It is said that if a house is built on the site of an old forge the people, who live in it, will have bad luck. The bellows is made of thin leather and wood. It is worked by working a handle up and down and the air comes under the fire - place by means of a pipe. They are not new, they are about ten years old.It is said that the smiths have power to banish rats. The local smith had never any special privilege at any time. The people send them gifts at Christmas and Easter, such as, potatoes, butter and eggs.
