- There was a man known as John Sullivan living in Dromsullivan near Bantry and he was a great man for casting stones. One day he challenged an Englishman who was touring in Glengarriff to cast a heavy stone. John Sullivan was a left-handed man and he cast the stone ninty-five feet beating the Englishman by forty-five and the Englishman casting with his right-hand. Sullivan received a reward of £5. He afterwards went to the United States where he won many prizes.
There was a man known as Dan Mac Carthy living in Tohor about a mile and half to the north of Skibbereen and he went to a circus on day and he saw one of the circus men lifting a six stone weight in each hand. This man said he would give £5 to any man standing(continues on next page)- Collector
