- There was once a man named Con Keane who lived near Drimaleague in the townland called "Bánbaoí". He was a very strong man, and was well known by all his countrymen for being the best man in the District for lofting a bowl. Many men often betted with him that they could beat him in lofting it, but he always won. The longest loft he ever threw was from a telegraph pole to a telegraph pole which is about two hundred feet with a twenty eight ounce bowl.
There was another man named Dan O'Mahony who was famous for being a great heavy-weight thrower. He lived north of Ballydehob. The longest distance he ever threw a heavy weight was when he threw a half cwt twenty four feet of a distance.
There was also a man named Germ Cotter who lived near Bantry and he was a great runner. He beat eight men in running a race of one mile which took seven minutes. There was also a man named Humphrey Lynch who lived(continues on next page)- Collector
