"Patience and perseverence carried the snail to Jerusalem" and "slow and steady wins the race" tell us if we fail to try and try again and you will certainly suceed in the end.We have a few examples of proverbs contradicting one another such as "many hands make light work and "too many cooks spoil the broth." Another instance "is always look before you leap" which is corrected by "he who hesitates is lost." There are many more beside the above mentioned but these will suffice to show the use the Irish people made and still make of them.These facts were related to me by my father Michael Mac Carthy on June 4th 1938.
