- Weather LoreAbout a hundred years ago the people of my locality, Crookhaven, could tell what kind of weather was approaching by observing the Sun, Moon and stars and rainbow and by the appearance of the sky. If the sky was red in the morning it was a sign of bad weather. If the sky as red in the evening it was a sign of good weather. When a circle appeared round the moon it was also a sign of bad weather. They also told the weather by observing the Islands in the distance. When the Island of Cape Clear could be seen clearly it was a sign of bad weather. They also could tell the coming storms and rain by the smoke. When the smoke went up straight it was a sign of good weather but when the smoke was flat down on the chimney it was a sign of bad weather. They also foretold the weather by small insects as the gnat. When it flew low(continues on next page)
