- About forty years ago a great steamer "The Augustus" was wrecked off of Reenmore Point which is opposite Kilthomane Pier. She had on board one hundred tons of flour on her journey from Cork to Bantry. All her crew who were great swimmers were saved.
- Over 150 years ago a great big old fashioned boat which was drawing sand from Carbery Island in Dunmanus Bay to Dunbeacon Quay was wrecked off of Drishane Cliff. It was manned by thirteen men - twelve rowers and one man steering. All the crew were drowned.
