    Young Daly cried in vain
    He shouted to his comrades.
    "We'll shove her off again"
    But as he stood upon the deck
    And watched the ebbing tide
    The cruel waves, they swept him down
    Now sleeping by her side.

    It was sad to die, so far from home
    Where none could hear their call.
    But every soul worked for himself
    And God above for all.
    Now o'er the Island of Cape Clear
    Dark sadness seems to reign
    For the six fond souls
    That now lie cold.
    Beneath the watery main.

    For death, he had no fear.
    Was done by young John Daly.
    The boat-man's engineer.
    When he saw his loved companions.
