A Song
“As I went out of a fair summer's morning; a little before the sun, I espied a pretty, young damsel and she making a great moan.”
As I went out of a fair summer's morning; a little before the sun,
I espied a pretty, young damsel and she making a great moan.
I drew up nigh as she passed by, where I could not be seen
As the tears rolled down her rosy cheeks for Johnnie of Hazel Green.I then saluted that pretty fair maid, and asked her why did she mourn,
"Or are thy father and mother alive, or dost thou ever go home"?
"My father is alive and my mother is too, but I value them not one pin,
For I'd rather be with my own true love, Young Johnnie of Hazel Green.""And what sort of a lad is your Hazel Green, or where did he remain."
"He was one of the finest youngmen, that ever your eye had seen,
His arms were long and his shoulders broad, he's rare to be seen,
And his hair hangs down like links of gold, Young Johnnie of Hazel Green."(continues on next page)- Collector
