At the foot of Slíabh na mBhan;
A gentle Irish girl with mild eyes likes the dawn;
Her cheeks were dewy rosebuds;
Her teeth like pearlets rare;
And a snow drift 'neath a beechen bough;

How pleasant 'twas to meet her on Sunday when the bell,
Was ringing with its mellow tones;
Lone wood and grassy dell;
And when at eve' young maidens strayed
The river's bank along;
The widow's brown haired daughter was the fairest of them all.

We well may call you brave,
Sure the least of all your perils;
Was the stormy, ocean wave;
When you leave your quiet valleys and cross the Atlantic foam,
