- Brave Larry sped across the hill
For Mary's cottage bound
He jumped each ditch and dyke and rill,
As lightly as a hound.

Tomorrow the brave insurgent band,
On the hillsides will be seen,
To strike again for native land,
Beneath their flag of green.

And Larry's going to take his leave,
Of his Mary fond and true,
That he may go with his brave chief,
And fight for Ireland too.

He took her then in his embrace,
And kissed her o'er and o'er,
And with weary heart and troubled face,
He crossed again the moor.

The morrow's sun in a purple blaze,
Came forth in all his might,
To Vinegar hill he turned his gaze,
And what a gorgeous sight.
