  1. At the time the Bantry Railway extension was being built about 45 years ago a man with his wife and family came to Bantry looking for work. He was successful in getting work from the ganger. He secured some rooms in a house. The weather at the time was cold and a fire was put down in the room in which the man and wife and his four children were sleeping. In the morning when the other occupants of the house did not see them getting up they knocked at the door, and found the room full of smoke, and the father and mother and four children dead.
